The Benefits of Dental Implants
Patients who undergo dental implant surgery not only improve their appearance, they also leave our office with stronger and healthier smiles.
Implants fill in gaps left by missing teeth, restoring the look of a complete, attractive smile. With implants you will be able to smile and present yourself to the world more confidently without worrying about unattractive gaps in your mouth. Implants also restore the ability to chew, allowing you to eat with ease. Filling in gaps left by missing teeth also reduces the risk of tooth decay and gum disease, promoting good oral health. And because implants are placed in the jawbone, they help stimulate the bone to prevent it from shrinking and deteriorating. This in turn helps maintain a normal-looking facial appearance.
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots designed to support dental restorations that replace missing teeth. Considered to be the most long-lasting solution to missing teeth, dental implants restore a patient’s ability to chew, speak and smile confidently.
Dental Implant Candidacy
You may be a suitable candidate for dental implants in Bellevue if you:
- Have one or more missing teeth
- Are in good general health
- Find dentures uncomfortable
- Have enough jawbone to support the implant
- Do not suffer from a chronic illness that could interfere with the healing process
Candidacy for dental implants is determined on a case-by-case basis with Dr. Jones. The dentist can design a customized treatment plan for your teeth following a thorough examination of your mouth and discussion of your dental concerns.
Types of Dental Implants
Depending on your needs, dental implants can replace one tooth, several teeth or all of the teeth in the lower and/or upper jaw. Each dental implant will be customized to fit the unique specifications of your mouth. To ensure your smile looks as natural as possible, we will carefully craft your dental implant to match the size, shape and color of your natural teeth.
Single-tooth implants consist of a dental crown attacked to an implant post. The post is surgically inserted into the jawbone and the crown is placed on top of the gums.
Implant-supported bridges replace several teeth and some tooth roots.
Implant-supported dentures replace an entire arch of teeth in the lower and/or upper jaw. Dentures can be fixed or removable, depending on your needs.
We are excited to have added ceramic implants, a metal-free option, to our dental restoration portfolio. Ceramic implants help those patients that have concerns about metals or have a metal allergy. Patients that have multiple sensitivities may be suitable candidates for ceramic implants.
The Implant Placement Process
Dental implant restoration and placement at our Bellevue dental practice is a multi-step process. First, Dr. Jones will carefully examine your mouth to determine the number and location of implants needed. She will also determine which type of dental restoration is the most appropriate for your case. Dr. Lynn Jones will then make impressions that will be used to craft your replacement tooth or teeth.
Dr. Jones will place the implant post or posts into the jawbone via an oral surgery procedure. Before placing your permanent dental restoration, the implant must fuse with your jawbone, a process that can take several months. During this time, a temporary crown may be placed. Once the implant is completely fused into your jawbone, you will return to our office so Dr. Jones can place the permanent restoration in your mouth. She will make any necessary adjustments to your restoration to ensure it fits perfectly in your mouth.
The implant placement process is typically performed over the course of two appointments at our dental practice. During the oral surgery procedure, you will be placed under anesthesia for your complete comfort.
Dental Implants FAQs
What are dental implants made of?
Dental implants consist of three components: a post that acts as a tooth root surgically inserted into the jawbone, an abutment that is attached to the post, and a dental restoration (crown, denture or bridge) that sits on top of the gums and is held in place by the abutment.
Does the dental implant process hurt?
Dental implant surgery is performed under anesthesia, so you will not feel any pain. Dr. Jones and our friendly staff make every effort possible to make each patient feel comfortable. We offer several sedation dentistry options to help anxious patients relax and feel comfortable during their visit with us.
Will my implants look natural?
With Dr. Jones, you can expect natural-looking implant results. The dentist uses the strongest, more durable materials to create implants. Dr. Jones’ experience and skill allow her to safely and precisely place implants so they fit perfectly in your mouth.
How much do dental implants cost?
The cost of dental implants varies patient to patient, depending on the type and number of implants needed. Dr. Jones can provide you with specific pricing for your implant(s) during your consultation.
How long will my dental implants last?
Implants are designed to be long-lasting. With proper care and maintenance, your implants can last a lifetime.
How do I take care of my dental implants?
Although they do not develop cavities, dental implants should be treated with the same care as natural teeth. Brush and floss your implants daily. You will also need to schedule periodic dental visits with Dr. Jones. This allows her to monitor the appearance, functionality and health of your implants. During your dental implant visit in Bellevue and Seattle, Dr. Jones may make recommendations to help keep your implants and natural teeth healthy and bright.
